Welcome to P.S.194 School Nurse

school nurse

The school health office is open every school day and is located across from the elementary main office.  Your child may visit the health office for illness, injury, playground accident, daily medications  or for many other health reasons.  You, the parent or guardian, may receive a phone call during school hours to inform you of an office visit.  A form may be sent home as well explaining the issue with possible follow up instructions.  Taking care of each and every scholar is our number one priority.

Below are the guidelines regarding when to keep your child home or send him/her to school.

FEVER: No child with a temperature of 100 degrees F or more should be present for school. DO NOT SEND THE CHILD TO SCHOOL UNTIL HE/SHE HAS BEEN FEVER FREE (without medication) FOR 24 HOURS.

COMMON COLD: Children with cold symptoms and cough should remain at home.

SORE THROAT: A child with a sore throat but without other symptoms may attend school, but if fever is present, keep the child home and contact your doctor.

RASHES: Do not send the child to school if they have a rash unless your doctor indicates it is safe to do so. Please provide documentation from his/her doctor.

VOMITING & DIARRHEA: Keep the child home and consult your doctor if stomach ache persists.

TOOTHACHE: Seek doctor's advice as soon as possible.

EARACHE: Please contact your doctor.

HEADACHE: If there are no other symptoms, the child must be present for school.  Medication can only be given at school if it is provided in the original container and with a doctor's prescription.

PEDICULOSIS (LICE): Lice infestation in the child's hair usually presents with intense itching on the scalp. Upon examination of the hair, nits (eggs) can be seen firmly attached to the hair shaft about 1/2 inch from the scalp and are difficult to remove. Grayish insect-like parasites may be visible. AFTER TREATMENT FOR LICE IS DONE AT HOME THE STUDENT MUST BE CHECKED BY THE SCHOOL NURSE BEFORE RETURNING TO SCHOOL.
