Pre-k 216

November Newsletter 2025
As we student balls, we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We will also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas.
What You Can Do at Home
Spend time with your cold playing with balls of different shapes, types, and sizes, such as playground balls, tennis balls, table tennis balls, volleyballs, baseballs, footballs, and marbles. Talk about what the balls are made of, whether they are heavy or light, and whether they are big or little.
Wonder aloud with your child to encourage his think about balls. For example, you might say, “I wonder how far you can throw a foil ball, a beach ball, and a tennis ball. How can we find out?" Help your child use all of his senses when playing with the ball. You might ask, “What does this ball look like?” Feel like? Sound like? Smell like?”
See how many types of balls you can find around the house and in your neighborhood.
Play a game while right in a car, bus, or train in which you and your child think of words that contain the word ball. Look for examples of balls in your community.
Thank you for playing an important role in our learning!!

Important Dates
Welcome to Ms. Maggio's Pre-K Class

We are so excited to welcome you in our classroom
My name is Megan Maggio and I have been an early childhood teacher for 16 years and still every day is filled with the excitement and joy of our earliest learners. Ms. Chloe, the Pre-K paraprofessional, brings her incredible knowledge and experience of singing, drumming, and performing into our room. Together, it is our mission to create a joyful, loving environment for your child. The relationships that we foster within our classroom, between teachers and students, student to student, and teachers and parents, are the focus to help create our community. The foundation of our Pre-K program is Learning through Play. Through play experiences, Ms. Chloe and I focus on the individual strengths, needs, interests, and social-emotional learning of each student as well as the cultures of each child’s family and the community.
We have quickly become a close Pre-K community of friends and we are learning about our part of a much larger family at PS 194. We use The Creative Curriculum to foster learning through play in ten Interest Areas.
These areas are
- Art
- Blocks
- Cooking
- Discovery
- Dramatic Play
- Library
- Sand & Water
- Music Movement
- Technology
- Toys & Games
We are in The First Six-Weeks of the program and have been learning more about our new school community, school expectations, family, and friends. Through books, discussions, and play experiences, our students have learned our classroom routines, how to explore and play in the Interest Areas, and share their voice with their friends.
WHAT CAN WE DO AT HOME
We are practicing independence every day in Pre-K. You can help your child grow their skills by encouraging him/her to complete tasks by themselves, just like we do in our classroom! Here are some examples:
- Putting on/taking off jacket, sweatshirt, etc
- Putting on/taking off backpack
- Opening the zipper of a backpack and handing you the yellow homework folder
- Using the bathroom independently (pulling down pants and, wiping, pulling up pants
- Washing hands
- Wiping/blowing nose
- Putting toys away when done playing
